All the appeals we support have been created by our partners. They work closely with these causes and can report on how donations have been used, or answer any questions donors might have.

Our job is to facilitate responsible giving. We are committed to ensuring as much as possible of every donation reaches the chosen appeal.

We have developed a very low cost model for collecting donations online, where the recipient charity qualifies to collect Gift Aid – which means they receive 120% of the donation.

Giving Time

Travel Philanthropy is serious about volunteering – the charity is run by volunteers, so we carry no staff costs, relying on the support of our partners. The supervision of our charitable work is the responsibility of the Trustees who, of course, are not paid for this work.

We recognise that volunteering is an important way in which companies and individuals can contribute to charitable causes. We work with a limited number of carefully selected partners who place volunteers in support of charitable projects. We screen all volunteering placements that we feature to ensure that they meet our criteria. We start with the presumption that the charitable donation of time by the volunteers imposes no costs on the local community they are supporting.

We only partner only with volunteering organisations which:

• provide detailed “job descriptions” for each placement, which must clearly fulfil at least one of our charitable objectives and not replace local labour
• are transparent about their costs; how much of the total donation is spent in the destination; and what it is spent on
• insist that all the costs of the volunteering activity are covered by the volunteers, including travel accommodation and board, and the support costs associated with their placement

We also expect each volunteer to make a cash donation to the cause for which they are working so that anything required to enable them to fulfil their charitable objectives is fully funded by them

We will not Gift Aid the costs of flights, accommodation and board, nor will we work with partners who do so.
